This is the product of a long-term restoration, and so you're looking at a turn-key classic camper that's just begging for a road trip. If you're looking at this van, you better be prepared to make some new friends. That's because the VW Vanagon is the more powerful, larger, and nimbler successor to the iconic VW Bus. And that spirit lives on thanks to its unmistakable silhouette. So there is plenty of character and camaraderie of ownership. The white paint is exceptionally well preserved, and it only gets better with a genuine camper built by VW's official conversion specialist Westfalia. The consignor has had this for over three years, and he spent that time restoring it with the best components around. In fact, this one is now obviously ready for an adventure with upgrades like the steel bumpers, PIAA lights, and larger 16-inch Mercedes-style alloys (including a full-size spare on a swing-away mount.) And VW fans will notice some great upgrades like the quad-headlight package that makes this look like a go-anywhere Syncro. Plus, when you get to the camp, this one has everything you want, from the detachable bumper-mounted grille, to the built-in 8ft retractable awning. The driver gets all the right comforts sitting behind the high-back gray cloth bucket seat. It has good bolstering and armrests to make sure it's long-haul comfortable. Plus, there's power steering, AM/FM/cassette stereo, upgraded gauges, power windows, and power locks. So everything you could want is at your fingertips. Plus, there was a backup camera added for better utility. The air conditioner was even serviced as part of this restoration. But the true luxuries are all behind the driver's seat. There was plenty of time and investment making sure this genuine Westfalia retained its best comforts in the wilderness. So classic element like the cabinetry, cushy seating, and pop-up roof tent are looking great. Plus, the restoration included the 120V electrical system upgrades, a new fridge, new fresh water pump, new curtains, and much more (call for all the details.) The result is a classic look on the outside but a level of comfort that leaves you wanting for nothing on the inside. When you look in the engine bay, you'll see a motor that looks as fresh as the rest of this restored VW. That's no accident. You're looking at a proper 2.2-liter flat four supplied by the Vanagon masters at GoWesty Camper Products. This fuel-injected powerplant was installed less than 800 miles ago! Around the same time a new three-speed automatic transmission from German Transaxle of America was also installed. This one even has the right supporting upgrades to be a great road trip machine, such as a bigger brake kit (w/discs up front,) transmission cooler, upgraded FI system, a new sway bar, and Bilstein shocks. This is the classic camper that's ready to hit the beach, concert, or even a week under the stars. It's the Vanagon you've always wanted, and it has been carefully restored to be ready right now. Great car for student in college, retirement or daily driver commute vehicle to enjoy the ride! I bought "Turtle" (as the guy I bought it from called it and pretty sure he got that from the original owner) back in 2012 from a cool older surfer dude in Newport Beach, CA with ~123,000 miles on it. He had taken great care of it with a local VW mechanic and had recently rebuilt the engine. He had all the records from Day 1 from the Westy. The original owner had taken hand pencil written records of every oil change since new and the date and miles he did it. Crazy stuff, but very cool and gives this bad boy some character. Pretty much every receipt of anything he did looks to have been kept. The second owner and I tried to follow by doing similar but he was the master! Looks like he had the van 1991 til 2006 where he went sold to someone from South Carolina to West Virginia then another buyer purchased in Maine, so Turtle has had some great travels. I drove it as my main commuter in Silicon Valley for about 3 years, then got a lease to keep the miles down. I have put about 47,000 on it and he has always been reliable. I maintained the service and expected repairs and last year decided I wanted to do a big revamp. Below is a summary: 170,000 Original Miles Recently smogged/registered (Oct 2018) First oil change after engine rebuild and 500 miles (Nov 2018) -Recent Work Professionally done by Lavere's VW in Concord,CA at 169,000 miles -Rebuilt 2.2L Engine with new cylinder heads (12/12 limited warranty) -Replaced radiator, wiring to fan and updated all cooling lines -Replaced power steering pump -Replaced water pump, intake manifold, engine mounts, oil cooler seal, fuel hoses, etc. -Replaced rear wheel brake shoes and cylinders -Replaced ball joints and replace right sway bar link -Replace front brake pads and rotors and repack bearings -Replace all grommets, cross over pipe, evap hoses and sending unit for fuel tank -Replace side hookups boxes -Replace bumpers with heavy duty bumpers front and back -Undercoat entire undercarriage -New Bilstein shocks front and rear -Repainted wiper blades, front grills and side vents -Replaced pop top and luggage rack seals -Evacuated AC system, added dye, charged freon and checked for leaks - blows cold -Replaced seats with Recaro style (they do not rotate to the back) -Replaced front carpet kit -Replaced headlight mounts -Replaced all 6 door panels with new kit -Purchased 16" Allow wheels and Michelin tire kit from GoWesty Other Add Ons: -Added a jumpseat behind passenger with shoulder harness seat belt installed -Added shoulder harness seat belt in rear along with existing two lap belts -Added Alpine stereo with bluetooth and installed bluetooth microphone -Added Lg Screen DVD player -Auxillary batter installed under driver's seat -Added GoWesty automatic window toggle switches and replaced original with cupholders What it needs to be perfect: Mechanically Turtle is now rock solid, any remaining needs are mostly "cosmetic": -Current paint is original and in good shape considering. Passenger side is in really good shape, driver side clear coat showing its age. A repaint is really all that is missing for full restoration, but there is some value in keeping original paint but you can decide. .-Some very minor dings but overall straight and 99% rust free CA car (small surface rust in back driver side wheel well). -Some screw holes from taking original front bumper guards to install new bumpers. -Interior clock doesn't work. -Stove hinge broken. I purchased a new one just needs to be replaced. -Faucet broken but purchased new upgrade kit from GoWest that will come with van if I don't install before purchase -Fridge, like most of these doesn't work. -Need to replace light bulbs in interior lights, just ordered bulbs so this should be fixed soon. -Gas gauge is temperamental had it checked but at times won't register gas level -Wiper fluid does not spray, probably need to check fuse or motor Selling because I am getting a new rebuild weekender since kids are getting older. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to answer. More pics (Just had it detailed so I will add more pics this weekend.): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11YQkaMGtIlEmdMknIHgNLsWFt47yeAsW?usp=sharingOn Nov-27-18 at 20:06:20 PST, seller added the following information: ~$23K recently invested with all work listed, have all receipts.
